TCN study and research program

“TCN Curriculum”

(Transatlantic Curriculum in Nursing)

 

 Training data:

According to the consortium agreement among Semmelweis University Faculty of Health Sciences, Nazareth College of Rochester and Laurea University of Applied Sciences the partnership realizes a training program in the framework of a so-called transatlantic student mobility funded by EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) and FIPSE (Foundation of Postsecondary Education USA). In the course of the training students study two semesters in one of the partner institutions on the other side of the Atlantic where they need to accomplish 60 ECTS credits.

Within this US students need to gain at least 25 ECTS credits in the partner institution (Laurea University of Applied Sciences) of the EU party (Semmelweis).

Besides their transatlantic credits EU students need to spend three months in the EU partner institution of the consortium (Laurea University of Applied Sciences).

 

Requirements of the training program:

According to the Memorandum of Understanding among the TCN members Semmelweis, Nazareth and Laurea students successfully accomplishing the requirements of their universities of origin and also those of the “BSc Nursing” program of the partner institution on the other side of the Atlantic in the course of the TCN mobility program (e.g. included thesis work and closing exam at SU or LU, comprehensive exam in advanced nursing at NC) are entitled to attain the diploma of the host institution:

 

Semmelweis students:   besides Semmelweis diploma also Nazareth one;

Laurea students:                       besides Laurea diploma also Nazareth one;

Nazareth students:                   besides Nazareth diploma also Semmelweis one.

 

Mode of Study:                     Full-time Double Degree TCN Program

 

During their TCN studies students gained additional competences in the following fields besides those listed in their institutional diploma supplement:

realizing safe nursing and care according to the cultural environment;

accomplishing the requirements of US and EU licensing examinations;

successful application of the standards of nursing practice in different circumstances independent on geographical, cultural and social relations;

detailed knowledge of the cultural background of other countries and the application of it in the course of their activity as a nurse;

leading, managing role in working communities based on their unique vision gained during their training;

finding solutions for global problems independent on country borders;

linguistic skills; knowledge of the health system, culture and regulatory system of another country; gaining individual experiences;

work in an international environment, participation in global programs (e.g. actions to extinguish poverty, participation in solving international crisis situations, cooperation in overarching international health programs);

creating professional and personal connections crossing borders;

knowledge of different health training systems, global approach;

recognizing and treating personal necessities caused by cultural shock (e.g. stress, tension, personal security);

recognizing and treating diverse social, economical and environmental circumstances in the course of their activity;

social empathy and tactfulness.
